If you are opening a business in Smithfield, you must first register your business with the Town Clerk’s Office, this process is now done online as of December 5th, 2023.  This requirement helps the Town maintain up-to-date records on businesses operating locally in accordance with state law, and also assists us in providing a level playing field for business proprietors with regards to licensing and taxation. You will also need an approved Zoning Certificate before the business registration is approved and you can start doing business.

New Business registration is $25.00, you may pay by credit card online. If paying by check or cash, payment can be made in person at the Town Clerk's office or mailed to the Town Clerk’s office.
